Trip back in time….

PhotobucketWell we didn’t get to go to TN like we wanted to. The money just wasn’t available.  Since my sister took Rhiannon and Trey to a birthday party and Jake was at a friend’s house, Will and I decided to take a little impromptu road trip.  I was looking up interesting places to visit around here and read about a general store that had been open since 1895.
Grist Mill with Old gas pumpThere’s an old building next to it that was built in 1869 as a trading post for the people that lived there and the Choctaw Indians.  The old building is now home to a grist mill where you can get fresh ground corn meal.  The woman that runs the store now actually acquired it from her husband.  His family had owned the store for many years (not sure if they were the original owners). At one time there was a doctor’s office, a barber’s shop, a post office, and a movie theater there though I don’t think they all existed there at the same time lol.  The owners makes fresh boiled peanuts, even though she doesn’t eat them. I,however, can make a meal out of them.  They are delicious!  They also had ice cold bottled cokes there.  I’m telling you, there’s nothing that tastes better. The taste from the plastic bottles just doesn’t compare.
It only took us about an hour or so to get there and it was worth the drive. It was almost like going back in time :) . I’m not going to post all of the pictures on this blog but you can see the rest of the pictures here .

Happy Birthday to…..me

So….my birthday was yesterday. I turned 32. It didn’t feel much different from turning 31. I still wish I was in my 20s but that’s not gonna happen so I’m just going to be happy being in my 30s. I really don’t feel that old at all ;) . I had gotten Will to buy me tickets to see on of my favorite rock bands that was going to be playing a concert about an hour away. I enjoy rock shows a lot, just not all of the stupid drunk people. I used to hate the smoking but that’s not a problem anymore because Jackson passed an ordinance that there can be no smoking indoors. The venue where the concert was even had a huge projection screen that kept displaying the ordinance. But of course, there are always those few idiots who think that they don’t have to follow the rules and smoked anyway. But it was only two people. One of those idiots was standing right by me though. He was just rude in general though so I just ignored him. I thought about going and telling someone in management but I didn’t want to lose my place at the front of the stage. I got to see 4 bands play and they were all awesome. I would have loved to have stuck around and met some of them but Will had to get up for work at 5 am and the concert wasn’t over until around 12. And also, they always try to talk you into buying merchandise and I just didn’t have the extra money. But I had a really good time and I’m glad that Will took me even though he had to get up early the next day.
I am still hoping that we can go to TN this weekend. We didn’t get any kind of a vacation this year and it would be nice to be able to get out of town just for a few days. We are just going to stay with my mil (not sure how that will work out lol) but we still need money for gas and food. I told Will to just take his vacation day back and we would try to go in October…But he’s really wanting to go now. I can understand though because we were supposed to go this summer but we didn’t have the extra money to go. I was looking the area up online and there are a lot of nice scenic places I would love to visit. And it would give me a chance to get some really great pictures with my Nikon. So I’m hoping and praying that we can get the extra money to go this weekend. Grrr…being broke stinks!
